A PICTURE A DAY!!!

Hey Gang, I have been spending a lot of time on Flickr and have decided to start a new project. The project idea is to take my pocket Canon Powershot camera with me every day to take one picture each day. Starting today I will be posting one picture a day on both my blog and on my Flickr account. I would like to give thanks to Chase Jarvis for providing me with the inspiration to start this new project.

I look forward to all of your input. If you are not a follower of my blog I encourage you to join in a show of support. :)

Here is the very first photo of this project.

This picture was taken in the district San Juan de Lurigancho

Travel Discount Codes Here to Stay

leonardo 172820 172820 ext 02 j image Travel Discount Codes Here to Stay

As we’ve mentioned in previous posts, coupon and discount codes for travel have been among the more noticeable trends in the online travel space this year. In a short time, they’ve gone from being pretty much non-existent to regular features in airline, car and hotel newsletters, web sites and special offers sections. And recently, we ran across CouponShack, a web site that aims to round these kinds of travel discount codes up all in one place.

In the travel section (the site offers coupon and discount codes from all kinds of online retailers), you can quickly scan the list of current hotel chains and online travel retailers to find available codes and their expiration dates.

We noticed that clicking on many of the travel merchants listed led us to deals available without codes and required us to use a reservation or booking engine to search for available dates and corresponding rates as we would with any deals-oriented section of a web site, but we were able find several current discount codes for BedandBreakfast.com, Marriott and Extended Stay.

What we liked the most about the site was the clear listing of expiration dates and the option to rate different deals and discount codes. The site also lists codes for air travel and cruises, not to mention tons of mainstream stores and retail brands.

Keep reading for more current travel deals and hotel promotions….

The Magic of Lombok Island

The Magic of Lombok Island

Lombok Island

The Wallace Line named by Alfred Russel Wallace on 19th century. He marks a spot of transition linking between the fauna and flora of Western and Eastern of Indonesia and proceeds as the Western border of West Nusa Tenggara, which contains Lombok Island and Sumbawa. Lombok Island is clearly different with Bali.

Lombok IslandLombok island 2,098 square miles or 5,435 square km. It is divided for nearly its entire length by two mountain chains. The southern chain, a range of limestone hills, reaches an elevation of 2,350 feet (716 metres), but the northern chain rises to Mount Rinjani Lombok (12,224 feet [3,726 metres]). None of the small rivers is navigable. Cliffs often rise precipitously from the sea, but there are good anchorages in bays on the western and eastern coasts.

Lombok Strait has depths exceeding 3,600 feet (1,100 meters). It has been called the edge of the Asian continental shelf, a contention supported by the marked differences between the plant and animal life of Bali and Lombok. Some intermingling of species has taken place, and Lombok has become the beginning of a transitional area in which Asian forms of life are being supplanted gradually by Australian forms. Vegetation includes a great palm, and typical mammals are monkeys, deer, and wild pigs. The island?s diverse birdlife includes large green pigeons, eight kinds of kingfishers, ground thrushes, grass-green doves, little crimson and black flower-peckers, large black cuckoos, king crows, golden orioles, and fine jungle cocks.

Lombok IslandLarge Asian mammals are absents and replaced instead by large numbers of marsupials, lizards, cockatoos and parrots. The difference becomes more pronounced as one moves further east where dry seasons are more prolonged and the land is dry and bush-like, and so in many areas corn and sago are the staple food, instead of rice. At first Islam time come to these islands in the 16th century, four Hindu Kingdoms co-existed in apparent peace what is now called West Nusa Tenggara and is still the religion embraced by those in the west of Lombok, which are primarily Balinese.

Lombok experienced strong Balinese influences in the past, but has still retained a unique identifies. The indigenous people of Lombok, the Sasaks, are predominantly Moslem and have a strong, distinguished tradition, as do the people of neighboring Sumbawa. Soft white sand, virgin beaches are typical in Lombok, where the motto is 'You can see Bali in Lombok, but not Lombok in Bali'. Famous for its 'tenun ikat' hand-woven textiles, the island has exceptional charm and its relatively undiscovered, except for Senggigi City, which becoming a major resort area. Regulars shuttle flights from Bali and Surabaya as well as ferries provide excellent transportation links within the islands of the province as well as with the rest of the country.

Lombok IslandThe two largest islands in West Nusa Tenggara province are Lombok in the west and the larger Sumbawa Island in the east. Mataram, on Lombok, is the capital and largest city of the province. The province is administratively divided into six regencies and one municipality, Mataram. The Sasak ethnic group mainly inhabits Lombok, with a minority Balinese population then, Sumbawa and Bima ethnic groups inhabit Sumbawa. Each of these groups has a local language associated with it as well. The population of the province is 3.821.134; 71 percent of the population lives in Lombok.

Wide Area

Best Hotels for Teens

leonardo 637211 637211 ext 01 j image Best Hotels for Teens

Yesterday, we featured a hotel package aimed at families traveling with teenagers. Today, we’re taking that idea a step further and highlighting TravelPost’s list of the Best Hotels for Teens…with their parents in tow, of course.

Finding a destination that will please the whole family is difficult with young children, but becomes all the more so when you add freedom-seeking teenagers to the mix. With the help of TravelPost travel experts and hotel reviewers who’ve visited, we selected the following hotels and resorts for their overall teen travel appeal.

We were careful to choose hotels in a variety of destinations and at varying price points, while still selecting properties that we think offer plenty of options for adults and young adults. Many hotels that made the list offer special teen programs or teen facilities, while others are well known for a wide variety of water sports, recreational activities and dining options in a safe, scenic environment. And we couldn’t resist throwing in one unexpected option especially for Twilight fans….Let us know what you think:

Photo Friday Natures colours at Delray Beach

Spending time in southern Florida during the hot summer months means frequent visits to the cooling ocean waters or swimming pools. It isn’t a good time to wander around parks or gardens, in fact in this part of Florida, there are very few botanical gardens to walk around in.Last Sunday I did discover a couple of gardens in Delray [...]

Hot Tube Cartoons

Amongst the stories in the London papers about how ridiculously hot the London Underground is that moment, a couple of cartoons really stood out. Thelondonpaper were spot on with their microwave Tube carriage:

Ianvisits spotted something similar in The Telegraph

Hot Tube cartoon by Matt in the Daily Telegraph
Fortunately next year, some of us might have some relief with the air conditioned Tubes when they are rolled out on the Metropolitan Line. But with deep level lines there's still no hope for cooler Tubes as Boris Johnson says "The difficulty is of course that it will ramp up the public pressure on us to deliver air-conditioning on the deep lines as well."

Each year we hear that TfL are working on cooler Tubes (when Ken Livingstone was mayor he offered a six figure reward for someone who could come up with a solution) and each year we swelter on deep level lines. Maybe one day, we'll see it, but until then it's a case of sweating and bearing it.
