Thanks in large part to spiraling rents, squatters all over Barcelona are setting up clandestine bar operations in formerly abandoned buildings. It’s estimated that around 40 of these illegal watering holes exist around the city, including spots like El Mariachi – a bar that’s said to be a favorite hangout spot for musicians, including Manu Chao.
